Whisper A Prayer!

Luke 5:16 So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

Jesus lived His life through prayer. He often withdrew to spend time with the Father in prayer. It is as He spent time in prayer that He was able to then go out and minister the healing power of God to those who needed it.

We see just a few verses down from Luke 5:16 where it told about Him often removing Himself from the masses to be alone with the Father that the power of God to heal was present as He taught. We looked at that scripture yesterday. Many times we see in scripture where He went out to pray and then when He came back into the presence of the people the power of God was present and went out from Him to provide for their needs. It was as He was spiritually re-fueled through prayer that He was able to minister to the needs of the people.

Luke 6:12-16 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor.

It was as He spent all night in prayer that He received the wisdom from the Father to know which disciples to choose to be His apostles.

Luke 6:17-19 And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.

This took place after He spent all night in prayer and then chose the 12 apostles. It was then that the people sought to touch Him for they recognized the power of God that was present within Him to heal. He spoke with authority; He made decisions with wisdom and He healed with the virtuous power of God that He received during the time He spent with the Father in prayer.

Do you want wisdom to know how to live your life successfully? Spend time with God in prayer. Do you want to have an impact on people’s lives for eternity for the kingdom of God? You receive His power through spending time with Him in prayer!! Do you want people to be able to see God’s reflection in you? Look at what prayer did in Jesus’ life:

Luke 9:28 Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening.

Jesus was transfigured through prayer. When He spent time in prayer it affected His appearance. His countenance changed! When you spend time in prayer your countenance will change also. People will notice a difference in the how you look. There will be a peace about you that will draw others to you. I’ve had people tell me that there is something different about me and they can see it and want it in their lives. I had a lady that I worked with that told me that one day while we were on our way home from a business meeting. She said she had watched me and listened to what I had to say for a year and she knew there was something different in my life and she wanted it in her life. I was then able to share with her that it was Jesus in my life that had made the difference and I led her in prayer to receive Him as her Lord and Savior. She was changed because I had been changed by my time spent with Jesus in prayer.

As I was walking tonight a little song about prayer came to my mind. You can listen to it at this web address:

Whisper a prayer in the morning; Whisper a prayer at noon. Whisper a prayer in the evening; To keep your heart in tune.

Father, I thank You for the privilege of prayer. We can come to You at any time of the night or day and You will listen to our requests and answer our prayers. Thank You for empowering us for life through the time we spend with You in prayer. May we ever be aware that it is through those times spent with You that we receive wisdom for the decisions of our lives, direction for our journey, strength for the trials and the power to minister life to those around us! Thank You, Father, for making provision for us through our relationship with Jesus and the time that we spend in Your presence. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
