How Can I Know That I’m Saved?

How can I know that I am saved? I’ve heard people say so many times, “I don’t feel like I’m saved”. And even in my younger years I heard myself saying that a few times. Well, my friends, I can tell you that you can be assured that you are saved through following the requirements of the Bible for salvation.

So, let’s begin at the beginning. The Bible says a person must be born again; born of the water and of the spirit. We have a physical body that is born through the natural means of birth. But we have a spiritual inner man that has to be born again through the Spirit. Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:3 that “unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus didn’t understand what Jesus was talking about so Jesus expounded on his statement:

John 3:6 NKJV “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

John 3:14-18 NKJV “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, sin came upon all mankind. We are all sinners by birth, but we also sin by choice. It is man’s human nature within him to sin. God, who is holy, had to have a payment for that sin in order for man to be restored to his place of righteousness with God. So God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for the sin of all of mankind. It is through dependence upon Jesus that brings us into salvation.

Romans 3:23 NKJV for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23 NKJV For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8 NKJV But God demonstrates His own love toward us, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

You see, we couldn’t purchase our own salvation and we can’t earn that salvation because the only one who could buy us back out of sin was a sinless human being. A man sinned (Adam) and brought sin into our human bloodline and it took a sinless man (Jesus) to pay the payment for our sin. Jesus was the only one who could do that because His blood was not of man, it was of the Holy Spirit. He was sinless by birth and by choice. He overcame all the temptation of the enemy that He might be the perfect sacrifice for man’s sin.

Romans 5:12 NLT When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

Romans 5:17-19 NLT The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over us, but all who receive God’s wonderful, gracious gift of righteousness will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam’s one sin brought condemnation upon everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness makes all people right in God’s sight and gives them life. Because one person disobeyed God, many people became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many people will be made right in God’s sight.

So, now we see that every human being from the time Adam sinned has been automatically a sinner. It came down through the bloodline. The only way to be freed from the sin that we inherited is through receiving the finished work of Jesus on our behalf. It is a personal dependence upon Jesus that saves a person.

Romans 10:8-10 Salvation that comes from trusting Christ—which is the message that we preach—is already within easy reach. In fact, the Scriptures say, “The message is close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

Romans 10:13 For “Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The way that you receive salvation is by believing in your heart that God sent Jesus to die for you, He was crucified, buried and God raised Him from the dead and then confessing Him as your Lord with your mouth. It is the belief or trust in your heart that Jesus did that for you personally that brings righteousness, then it is made yours through the confession of your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.

We make that salvation personally ours through prayer.

Father God, I confess that I am a sinner both by birth and by choice. I believe that You gave Your very own Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for my sin; that He was crucified for me, buried and You raised Him from the dead. I ask You to forgive me of my sin and come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and save me. I confess You as my Lord and Savior and I thank You for dying for me and for saving me. I will live every day of my life for You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Once you have prayed that prayer and meant it sincerely in your heart, you are saved. Remember, the Word says in Romans 10:13 For “Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” You cannot earn this salvation because it is a free gift. The only way to get it is to receive it by faith.

Ephesians 2:8, 9 NLT God saved you by His special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

You must believe the Word of God over your feelings as you will not always feel saved. The devil will try to condemn you every time you sin so that you won’t believe that you really were changed when you prayed. But you must believe that if you asked God to do something in faith that He really did do it. He wants you to know for sure that you were born again!

1 John 5:11-13 NLT And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. So whoever has God’s Son has life; whoever does not have His Son does not have life. I write this to you so that you may know you have eternal life.

You receive God’s Son, by His Spirit, when you asked Him to save you. That’s what it means to be “born again”. Your spirit man comes to life. When God created man He breathed into Him the breath of life and he became a living soul. When sin came upon mankind the ability to fellowship with God through our spirit man was snuffed out. Man then lived according to the dictates of his flesh and physical being. But when you become “born again” your spirit man is brought back into relationship with God. Now you can live spirit to Spirit; once again having fellowship with the Father through your relationship with Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 NLT What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. An new life has begun! All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to Himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to Him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message He has given us to tell others. We are Christ’s ambassadors, and God is using us to speak to you. We urge you, as though Christ Himself were here pleading with you, “Be reconciled to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Now that a person is born again and a new creation in Christ Jesus, does that mean he will never sin again?

No, absolutely not. What it means is that our sins, past, present and future have already been paid for. We now have the freedom to confess our sins as we commit them and know that we are acknowledging that what we did is wrong, but that it’s not being held against us because Jesus paid for us to be forgiven.

1 John 1:8-2:2 NLT If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His word has no place in our hearts. My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if you do sin, there is someone to plead for you before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who pleases God completely. He is the sacrifice for our sins. He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

When we become saved we no longer have the desires that we had before conversion. We now want to live for Christ Jesus because we love Him and want to please Him. That is one way that we can know we belong to Him. When we sin, we feel sorry for it; we want to confess it to Him because we know that sin displeases the Father. We want to live a life that is pleasing to Him. And His Spirit within us bears witness with us that we are His.

Romans 8:16 NKJV The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

He gives us peace within when we wonder about whether or not we truly were born again. The Holy Spirit is our guarantee that we are God’s children.

Ephesians 1:13, 14 NLT And now you also have heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, He identified you as His own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom He promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us everything He promised and that He has purchased us to be His own people. This is just one more reason for us to praise our glorious God.

The problem that people run into after they are saved is that the devil comes with condemnation every time you do something wrong, trying to tell you that you really didn’t receive salvation; that there is no hope for you. Listen, folks, kick the devil out of your life. When you prayed to receive Jesus as Savior He really did come into your heart by His Spirit and He lives within you. Write down the date and time that you prayed to receive Jesus so you can tell the devil when it happened and kick him our of your life! Nail it down! If you are still having trouble with this, pray it again and then write it down and go back to that date and time every time the enemy comes at you with condemnation.

Romans 8:1-4 NLT So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses could not save us, because of our sinful nature. But God put into effect a different plan to save us. He sent His own Son in a human body like ours, except that ours are sinful. God destroyed sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the requirement of the law would be fully accomplished for us who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.

Condemnation and conviction are two different things that come from two different sources. Condemnation offers no hope; it says that you are a hopeless case; you will never be any different and you are no good to anyone. It comes from the pit of hell, straight from the father of lies, the devil. Conviction, on the other hand, is from the Holy Spirit, where He gently convicts us of something we’ve done wrong and encourages us to confess it to the Father so we can be forgiven once again and cleansed from the guilt of that sin. The Holy Spirit always offers a way out; the devil always tells you nothing will work. Do you see the difference?

Now that we’ve gone all through salvation from the beginning to the end, I hope that you will be assured that when you accept Jesus as Your Savior and Lord you truly are “born again”. May you walk in the Spirit and not the flesh. The victory comes as you follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance; being quick to repent when you are wrong and get back into sweet fellowship with the Lord that comes from that repentance.

Father, I pray that You will take this message of Your word and seal it in the hearts of the readers that the enemy might not be able to come and steal it from them. I pray that those who read this message that don’t know you will accept what Jesus did for them on the cross of Calvary. I ask You, Holy Spirit, to convict their hearts and convince them of their need for Jesus as Savior and Lord. Father, may the enemy be defeated in their lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. I ask You to help the ones who have received Jesus to put a stop to the devil’s condemning words being thrown at them. May they realize that they can submit themselves to You, God, and resist the devil and Your word says when they do that he has to flee from them. I ask You, Lord, to give them an assurance of their seal, the Holy Spirit within them, as the guarantee that they are Yours. May they walk in the victory that Jesus has secured for them. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Thanks, AVANELL! This was a great blog because the devil always comes to steal any good away from us believers. The most important way to me to become more and more reassured is to stay in the Word always. Romans 10:17 tells us, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” and this is accomplished Supernaturally by the Holy Spirit! Just had to mention that because it is what helps me the most!

    God Bless you, Avie!

Thanks, Gaye, for your comments this morning. I have found that people are constantly fighting with their feelings versus what the word of God says regarding their salvation experience. The devil looks for weaknesses that he might steal from us and the only ground that he gets is what we give him. So, I feel it’s important to go back and settle the issue so people can be assured that their salvation is intact. Thanks for helping to reinforce that in your comments today!

      God Bless!

Great blog about the truth of being born from above.

Our feelings are part of our soul which is our mind, will and emotions which our heavenly Father has given to us to make us who we are.

But our spirit and not our soul is meant to control us.

When Jesus comes to live in us our spirit is made brand new, restored, renewed, rejuvinated, regenerated and is joined with His Holy Spirit.

Our soul, mind, will and emotions have to be washed in the Word of God to trnasform our thinking process and feeling process and what we will to take place in our lives.

We also have a scar in our spirit from our conversion from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light, the marvelous light of Jesus.

We have to stand on the Word of God when that evil one of old comes with thoughts in our minds and feelings in our emotions to try and lead us astray.

Through His great all consuming grace and love for us we are now enabled to live free from all sin and temptation and able to stand on His Word in faith knowing His Word is truth for us to live our lives by.

Our new born from above spirit is supposed to be leading and guiding us in living on this earth.

Those who are led of His Spirit are the sons of God.

Once we have been forgiven when we first come to the cross our sins and sin has been and is still being and forever will be forgiven us.

We are forgiven all of our past, all of our present and all of our future sin.

That devil will do his best to lead us around by our emotions and doubts and we have to stand against his lies by confessing all the truth He has for us in and with His Word knowing that He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

I had a three day and three night conversion experience when I came to Jesus.

It was October 1, 2, and 3rd of 1984 and I will never ever forget it. It was real and is real.

I got born from above by reading the Word of God and it took a little over seven years of reading at least seven different translations of the Bible.

But, here I am and still standing and still over coming every attack from the demons and devil himself because I am the righteousness of Father God Himself because of Jesus and His cross and grace and love and mercy and forgiveness.

Praise you Father God for your Son Jesus and His precious Holy Spirit.
