Hebrews 10:35-39 NKJV Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: “For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
Have you ever received a promise from God as your own, stood in faith believing that it would come to pass, and then gave up after not seeing it happen? That is a very common occurrence in people’s lives. We often waiver and quit believing when we feel God’s had sufficient time to bring it into our lives. But it’s important that we don’t quit; that we don’t give up and that we don’t cave in under the purifying of our faith. Why does it have to take so long?
I remember when I was single and waiting for the promised mate that God had said He would bring into my life. Ladies were getting married all around me and with short courtships; it just seemed like God had forgotten me. And He consistently gave me scriptures of assurance that if I would stand firm believing Him that I would receive. But it seemed like it would never happen! However, God is not slack concerning His promises; He always fulfills what He has spoken to you.
2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
The promises of God are Yes and Amen, or so be it, in Christ Jesus so that God can be glorified in our lives. People need to see God moving in our lives because it shows them that God is real and He is good! He will not fail to keep His promises when we are faithful to stay in faith. It sometimes looks like it will never happen but if we don’t waiver it will come into manifestation. God cannot lie!
Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
So when we experience a delay in receiving what we have been believing God for we need to consider that all things happen for a reason and sometimes we are delayed in receiving our promises because He wants to give us further instruction in how to cooperate with the work that He is doing. The word tells us that He is always working in our lives. But are we always cooperating with Him?
Philippians 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
We sometimes think it should happen a certain way and then when it doesn’t we think we didn’t hear God correctly in the promise that He has given us or that He must have changed His mind and decided to withhold it from us. But God doesn’t go back on His promises. Sometimes we think He needs a little help so we try to bring it into manifestation on our own. Abram and Sarai did that when they were discouraged in not seeing the manifestation of the promised son that God had given them. Sarai got impatient and decided that if Abram would take her maidservant, Hagar, as a surrogate mother they could have the son that God had promised. They tried that and experienced the birth of Ishmael, a work of the flesh that caused a multitude of problems for them and for Hagar as well. But God wanted to do a greater miracle in their lives by bringing a son to them naturally through the union of their bodies as husband and wife. It took a long stand of faith for that promise to come into manifestation. God constantly gave them words of encouragement along the way, just as He will do for you when you are believing Him for your miracle!
Romans 4:16-21 NLT So that’s why faith is the key! God’s promise is given to us as a free gift. And we are certain to receive it, whether or not we follow Jewish customs, if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe. That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who brings into existence what didn’t exist before. When God promised Abraham that he would become the father of many nations, Abraham believed Him. God had also said, “Your descendants will be as numerous as the stars,” even though such a promise seemed utterly impossible! And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though he knew that he was too old to be a father at the age of one hundred and that Sarah, his wife, had never been able to have children. Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was absolutely convinced that God was able to do anything He promised.
Abraham didn’t waver in his faith; in fact, his faith grew stronger through the experience. He didn’t look at his age as being a factor in God’s work or the fact that Sarah had passed the child-bearing age. He looked at his God and His ability to perform that which He had promised. His focus was on God’s ability; not his own. God will do what He has promised if we will not give up in our stand of faith while waiting.
Hebrews 6:11, 12 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Some nuggets of truth to ponder: Imitate those who through faith and patience have received their promises! Watch those around you who are living godly lives walking by faith and receiving what God has promised them. Continue to do what you know to do according to God’s word and don’t faint, or quit, because in due season, or at the right time, you will receive the promise.
I received the promise of a godly mate from God when I stood in faith until it happened. It didn’t happen as soon as I would have liked for it to happen, but it came into manifestation in God’s timing. You will receive what God has promised you if you will not lose heart and quit believing. It takes faith and patience to inherit the promises of God.
Hebrews 10:35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.
Don’t throw away the confident expectation that you have in God. It pays a great reward! That’s how you receive from Him. He gives every gift by grace through your faith. It’s His grace that provides the promise and your faith brings it into manifestation. Don’t quit before you receive!
Father, I thank You for Your promises to us that are Yes and Amen in Christ Jesus! Thank You for Your faithfulness to provide what You have promised. I pray that we will stand firm in our faith, not wavering, as we wait for the promise to arrive. Help us, Lord, to not give up before we receive it! Thank You for giving us additional assurances along the way to help us keep our faith to the end. May You receive all the glory for what You are doing in each of our lives. Let the world see through us that You are good and You keep Your promises. I pray for my friends this morning who may be discouraged by not seeing what You have promised come to pass in their lives. I pray that You will encourage them by Your Spirit to continue standing strong until the promise comes into being. Help them, Father, to look unto You and Your ability to perform what You have promised. I pray that they will not take it upon themselves to help You in any way, but they will rely totally on You. Thank You, Father, for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
