Psalm 146:12; 15, 16 Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. He give snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes;
We awoke this morning to a white blanket on the ground! This is our only visible evidence of winter. We’ve had the cold, damp days but this year this is the only evidence of the season. Now, I am thankful that we have not experienced the heavy snows that have been falling in the Midwest, but if we must have winter then I do like to see a little evidence of it! My hubby says it’s about 1 3/4 inches.
Job 37:5, 6 God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend. For He says to the snow. Fall on the earth; Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength.
God is so awesome! Have you ever done a word study on the word “snow”? Here’s something interesting that I discovered in my study this morning:
Job 24:19 As drought and heat consume the snow waters, So the grave consumes those who have sinned.
Grave — Hebrew word sheol — means hades or the world of the dead; grave, hell, pit.
Consume — Hebrew word gazal — means to pluck off; seize, to flay, strip or rob; catch, consume, exercise [robbery]; rob, spoil, take away by force, violence, tear.
God’s word says that just like drought and heat take away by force the snow that falls on the earth, so Hades or hell takes away by force those who have sinned. Sin robs people of their life and sends them to the place of the dead, the grave, hell, the pit. There is nothing, in and of themselves, that men can do to stop their sin from consuming them. Sin seizes a person, robs them of their destiny, and ultimately sends them to hell.
But wait! There is something that will redeem man, or buy Him back from his sin.
Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
There is an antidote to sin; something that will turn it from red to white as snow! What could it be? There is hope for man’s sin found in the sinless blood of the Lamb!
2 Corinthians 5:17; 21 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
There is One who paid the price for our sin, that we might not be seized by it, consumed by force and taken to the place of the dead, of hell! His name is Jesus!
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sin pays a wage; it is death, going to the place of the dead, that place where man is eternally separated from His God; the place of torment, that place called Hades or Hell. But God has given us a gift of eternal life that was purchased by Jesus Christ our Lord. There is an antidote to sin; it is life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
But how can we appropriate this gift into our lives? A gift cannot be given without it being received. We simply receive the free gift of salvation made possible through the blood of Jesus.
Romans 10:8-13 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
How do we call on the Lord to receive this free gift of salvation? We pray. It is what we believe in our hearts about Jesus and confessing Him as Lord and Savior of our lives that we are saved from the sin that consumes us. Have you prayed to receive Jesus into your heart? Have you asked Him to save you from the eternity that without Him will seize you and place your soul in Hell? If not, and you would like to do that, please pray this prayer with me and sincerely mean it in your heart:
Father, I come before You this morning realizing that if I don’t ask Jesus into my heart to be my own personal Lord and Savior that I will spend my eternity separated from You in a place called Hades, or Hell. I do not want to go there. I believe in my heart that Jesus paid the price for my sin; that His blood is the antidote for my sin. I believe that He is Your Son, the One You sent to pay the price for my sin. I believe that He died paying that price for sin, was buried, that You raised Him from the dead and that He lives to ever make intercession for mankind. I ask You, Lord Jesus, to come into my heart and save me. I confess You as my own personal Lord and Savior and I vow to live each day of my life for You. Thank You for saving me. These things I pray believing in the name of Jesus that I will receive what I have asked of You. Amen.
If you prayed that prayer with me this morning and really meant it in your heart, the grave or Sheol, Hades, Hell, will not consume or seize you when you die. You have a place reserved in Heaven with God and His Son, Jesus Christ. You are now a new creation in Christ Jesus! Hell cannot torment you; the grave cannot consume you! You have been given life and that more abundantly. Jesus said He came that we might have life and that we might have it in abundance! Welcome to the family of God!
Father, I thank You for those that have accepted Jesus into their hearts this morning. I thank You for the snow and how we can even see through the visible effects of our weather that You reign supreme and the snow gives us a picture of how You cleanse us from our sins. It is evident that You planned for this weather event to reflect Your goodness and that when we look at the snow we are reminded of how You make us white as snow from the effects of our sin. Thank You, Father, for making it possible that we can be set free from the grip of death! Thank You for giving us life in Christ Jesus. We, as Christians, do not have to face the torment of Hell, but instead have been given a place in Heaven with You for all eternity. Thank You, Lord, for giving us the freedom to choose life over death, blessing over curses, freedom over bondage. Thank You for Jesus! Amen.
Isaiah 55:10, 11 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Thank You, Lord, for not allowing Your word to return to you void! But thank You for causing it to accomplish what You have sent it out to do this morning!
