Perfect Peace

Perfect peace

Isaiah 26:3, 4 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, because He trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.

The key to staying in perfect peace is keeping your mind focused on the Lord. What you think about will either bring peace or unrest into your mind. This scripture gives us the key to having a peaceful mind and it is as we trust in the Lord and receive His strength that we can overcome the difficulties.

Sometimes something comes at you that just seems to hit you from out of nowhere. Maybe it is a bad report from the doctor, a bill that is unexpected, a relationship that has gone sour, or the loss of a job or unexpected death of a loved one. Whatever it is, within it is the ability to rob you of the peace that Jesus came to give you.

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Jesus said His peace that He was giving us would not be the same as what the world has. The world’s peace is dependent upon what happens to us; our circumstances in life. But God’s peace is an inner satisfaction and contentment that is not dependent upon exterior circumstances. It is dependent upon where your focus is; what you are holding in your mind’s eyes.

Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled”. That means that we have to choose to not allow the circumstances of whatever it is that has come to steal our peace have the upper hand. The Amplified Bible says it this way:

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit your selves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]

Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed! We have a choice here. We can either allow the enemy to rob us of our peace and joy, or we can stop it. We have to take action in order for the unrest to stop. Do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled. When peace leaves, fear moves in. Do not permit it to happen! We don’t have to live in a fearful and unsettled state. Get your mind back focused on Jesus! Trust in the Lord, not in man.

Psalm 118:8 is said to be the verse that is in the center of the Bible. I have not counted them to make sure that is accurate, but that is what I’ve heard. This is what it says:

Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man.

When it comes to what we are to put our trust in, there is no comparison to what the world can give you through another human being than what God can do for you. Our trust must rest in the Lord or we will live in a constant state of unrest. Trouble comes from all directions and has the ability to knock you off your feet and keep you in turmoil. But when your trust is in the Lord there is peace.

Father, I thank You for the peace that has been given to us through our relationship with Jesus. You’ve said in Your word that a person that doesn’t know Jesus has no hope and is without God in the world. Without You, Lord, there is no peace. Father, I pray for those this morning who may be outside of Your love and care, who are experiencing difficulties with no one to turn to. Father, I pray that they will turn to You and experience the peace that Jesus died to give them. Father, I ask You to touch their hearts, to bring them to the saving knowledge of Jesus and give them salvation and peace. Father, I pray also for those who are going through difficulties that need to re-focus on You. May they see that it is only as they trust in You and turn their eyes away from the situation and onto You that You can restore their peace. Thank You, Father, for touching their hearts and giving them an assurance that You are working on this situation on their behalf. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
