The River Of Life

Psalm 63:1 AMP O GOD, You are my God, earnestly will I seek You, my inner self thirsts for You, my flesh longs and is faint for You, in a dry and weary land where no water is.

Are you thirsty?  Does your “inner self” thirst for something that you just can’t seem to put your finger on?

I can think of so many things that we search for trying to find that satisfaction that comes from God alone. Jesus addressed that problem in the woman at the well in John 4. He told her that if she would receive the “living water” that comes from Him she would not need to search for intimacy any longer through the worldly relationships that she had sought throughout her life. As I meditated on this the Lord took me back to Ezekiel 47 where He talks about the river that flows from the temple. Wherever that river goes there is life and healing according to Ezekiel 47:1-12. And the deeper we go into the river of God the more healing and revelation we receive. Jesus said it this way in John 7:37-39:AMP

Now on the final and most important day of the Feast, Jesus stood, and He cried in a loud voice, If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trust in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water. But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith) in Him were afterward to receive. For the [Holy] Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor).

Rivers of living water

Jesus declared that if we would come to Him and drink the Holy Spirit within us would well up in us like a river that constantly springs forth living water. In that river of God there is fullness of life and healing not only for us but also for those to whom we minister. The more we drink, the fuller we become and the more we have to give out.

Do you long for satisfaction and contentment in your innermost being?  Come to Jesus and drink of His living water!   You will find that as you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you and will fill you up in those areas of discontent and longing.

Father, I pray for those who are thirsty and never satisfied this morning.  I ask You to open their spiritual eyes to see that You alone can fill the empty places in their hearts.  And for those who don’t know you, Lord, I pray that today will be their day of salvation; that they will see You as Savior and embrace the salvation that You died to give them.  Bring the lost to Jesus and fill the hungry hearts with Your love, mercy and grace today.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

I actually was able to read and comment on this wonderful blog.
I could not agree more. The deep we wade, the greater the blessings we find.

Christ’s waters from His Word for us are healing and living indeed! So often it is the “over the head” or “swirling eddy” part that scares me. However, with “sword” as my 2015 word, I, too, want to wade in more deeply and learn to swim His way. Thanks, Avanell, for these nudges.

You’re welcome, Ellen! Thank you for commenting.

I think the deeper we go with the Lord the more faith we develop in His ability to hold us up through the eddies of life.

      God bless!

It is sad so many turn to the things of the world to bring satisfaction to their hunger and thirst for meaning. Then to find out so quickly that it does not last.
I pray many will find “the well water” provided by our Great God, Lord Jesus Christ.
    and Holy Spirit.
Thank you Avie for being a reflector of the Light of Jesus to all that will pass by here.
