Fire And A Hammer

Jeremiah 23 29

Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not My word like a fire?” says the LORD, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”

God says that His word is like fire and a hammer that breaks the rock into pieces! What situation are you facing today that seems like a rock that is too big and strong for you to break through?

In Isaiah 55:11 the Lord says that when His word goes forth from His mouth that it does not return unto Him void, but it accomplishes that which He sent it out to do.

As ambassadors of Christ we have the ability to speak His word into our lives and watch Him change those situations to bring honor and glory to His name through the power that is available in His word to right the wrongs and break down the barriers.

God told Joshua that if he would not let His word depart from his mouth, but that he would meditate in it day and night and do what it said that he would have great success and prosper in all that he chose to do. (Joshua 1:7-9)

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

God’s word is living and powerful. When released from our mouths through faith it has the power to act as a two-edged sword. It cuts going in and coming out. It goes deeply within a person’s heart to change their thoughts and divide and conquer that which is wrong; to bring it into alignment with His will and ways.

We see an example of the power that is in the spoken Word of God when Jesus was in the wilderness being tempted by the devil. He fought the devil’s attacks with the word of God and then went on to say than man’s sustenance is not just through food, but that he would live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Matthew 4:3, 4 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

You might be saying, “well, that was Jesus; He was the Son of God”! And that is true, but He came to earth as a man who lived under the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit and accomplished all that His Father asked Him to do through that empowerment. He was fully God and fully man; the man Christ Jesus was described as Jesus of Nazareth in His humanity.

Acts 10:38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

Jesus, in His humanity was a man who depended on the Holy Spirit to do the work through Him that God asked Him to do. He depended on the Holy Spirit for His empowerment.

We who have invited Jesus into our hearts to be our Lord and Savior are also called “sons of God”.

Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

When will we begin to act like sons of God? Will we speak His word in the authority that He has given us as His sons and daughters to see the same effect that Jesus had when the devil tempted Him in the wilderness, or will we sit silently by and watch the enemy steal, kill and destroy our lives? The choice is ours today!

Confession for today based on God’s word: I will speak forth God’s word that applies to the rock of difficulty in my life and watch Him change it for me. I will cooperate with God’s Spirit within me to effect change in my life and see Him do the work through me that needs to be done to bring glory and honor to His name as I represent Him in my world.

Prayer for today: Father, I thank You for Your word. And I thank You that it is powerful and active and sharper than any two-edge sword and when I apply it to my life it becomes like a fire and a hammer that breaks the rocks of adversity into pieces before my very eyes. I will take Your word and use it today in faith believing that what I speak will carry the power that is needed to change my life and to bring honor and glory to Your name as a representative of Yours. Thank You, Father, for Your Spirit who is within me who directs my thoughts to the right Word that needs to be spoken over my life. May You receive glory and honor through my heart and my actions. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Called And Chosen

Matthew 22 14

Matthew 22:14 AMP For many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen.

Jesus spoke of the kingdom of Heaven as being like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent servants around to invite those whom He wanted in attendance. The scripture records in Matthew 22: 5: But they were not concerned and paid no attention [they ignored and made light of the summons, treating it with contempt] and they went away—one to his farm, another to his business. The didn’t have time to give to the king; some even killed the messengers that brought the invitation.

How apropos this is to the day and time that we live in. Jesus died for all and all are invited to come into the kingdom of God, but few are chosen because not all will receive His invitation. Many do not have time for King Jesus so they treat His invitation with contempt and at times even kill the messengers that bring the good news of salvation to the lost!

This is the day that we celebrate the crucifixion of Jesus, the day that is known as Good Friday, signifying the blessing of Jesus’ death because if we didn’t have the day He was crucified we would not have Resurrection Sunday, the day He was raised from the dead after paying the penalty for our sin. If Jesus hadn’t died we would be doomed to an eternity apart from Him, spent in hell, and unfortunately, those who have been called but not chosen have that as their eternal destination. But that can be changed! As long as there is breath and life here on this earth there is an opportunity to choose to receive God’s invitation to His wedding feast!

John 1:11-13 NKJV He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, not of the will of man, but of God.

You have been called to come in to the kingdom of God, but have you been chosen through receiving His invitation? Are you among the few that have made Jesus Savior and Lord of their lives?

1 John 5:12 NKJV He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

The wedding feast of the Lamb awaits those who have been invited and have received His invitation to come in to the kingdom of God. There is a seat with your name on it. Will you come in? Will you be among the chosen?

Father, I thank You for giving Jesus to die for my sins. I am thankful that my place at the wedding feast of the Lamb is secure and that I have my eternal destiny set in You, in Christ Jesus, for I have received Him as my own personal Savior and Lord. I pray for those this morning who will be left out because they have not taken the time to respond to Your calling to come into the kingdom of God. I pray that today may be their day of salvation; that today they will hear Your voice and respond by asking Jesus into their hearts as their own personal Savior and Lord. I pray that You will continue to woo them by Your Spirit; drawing them to You. Father, I pray that the blinders will fall off of their minds so that they will be able to see the light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ and will be able to be saved from the destruction that awaits those who do not choose Him. Father, I know that You are not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance and the saving knowledge of Jesus. May each one that is called respond to Your calling today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Let The River Flow

John 7:37-39 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

“There is a fountain within you, Child, that, when you draw from it, will provide everything that you have need of. It is the river of My Spirit within you. I am the life-giving Spirit; the one who fills you to overflowing with my provision. You will never thirst when you rely on My Spirit’s water of life. I am the Living Water; the Bread of Life; the Manna sent down from Heaven to do My Father’s will. Turn to Me and be filled with My life; My sustenance, My ever-living Spirit. I will teach you all things; I will bring back to remembrance the things that you need to remember; I will help you, for I am all things to you. There is no need or lack in Me; I am the Everlasting Father; the Prince of Peace; the Comforter, all in One; I am God. Learn to listen to My voice and follow My directions and I will lead you and guide you into all peace and truth. I provide a well of salvation for you to draw from. There is healing and deliverance in it; there is strength and understanding; there is hope and faith; there is life in abundance. The well of salvation flows from My Spirit within. Draw from it and be filled with a river that will flow freely from you to those around you. Let My water of life flow freely through you to water the dry ground of your life. Open your heart to Me and I will fill you to overflowing. Turn away from the distractions of the world and look unto Me for life; abundance, healing, prosperity, and wholeness.”

“Tell the world of My salvation; tell the people of My river that they, too, may receive from Me! The great exchange has been made; their sin for My forgiveness; their sickness for My healing; their lack for My riches; all has been provided on the cross where I shed My blood. All has been paid for and is freely given. Tell the people of so great a salvation that has been given to them. Warn them of the days ahead and share My love with them so they may be saved, healed and delivered from the kingdom of darkness. Tell the people how I paid the price for their salvation for I am the Savior of the world!”

Friend, I must share with you this morning of the Father’s love that was demonstrated for you when He gave His very own Son to die for you and for me. He paid the price for our redemption through shedding His blood on the cross when He was crucified. The debt that we owed for our sin was canceled; paid in full through His crucifixion. If you have never received Jesus into your heart to be your own personal Lord and Savior I plead with you today to do that. Time is running short; we don’t know how much more time we have before He returns for His church. That choice must be made on this side of eternity. None of us are promised tomorrow; we never know when we will cross over into eternity. Choose Jesus and live forever in His presence; put it off and you may not have another opportunity. If you have never invited Jesus into your heart and would like to do so, please pray this prayer with me and mean it sincerely as you pray:

Father, I confess my need for Jesus. I confess that I was born into sin and that I have chosen sin over Your ways by living my life for my own selfish desires. I have sinned against you and I ask You to forgive me, to cleanse me from all sin and to save me. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God; that He was crucified for my sin, that He went to hell in my place and that You raised Him to new life. He is alive today. I confess Him as my own personal Savior and Lord and I vow to live for Him every day of my life. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Father, I thank you for those who have prayed that prayer to receive Jesus into their hearts. I pray that You will now assure them of Your presence within by filling them to overflowing with Your Spirit. I pray that they will yield themselves to You that You might lead them and guide them through their lives. Fill their hearts with Your peace that passes all understanding and place people around them that they can trust to help them and encourage them in Your ways. Give them close contacts with others that are strong in faith that will be an example to them of walking by faith. Help them to trust you with their cares and to lean on You in all the days of their lives. Thank You, Father, for saving them. Thank You for filling them and for giving them the sweet presence of Your Spirit within. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
