God’s Everlasting Love

Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”

God loves us with a love that lasts forever. His love for us never runs out, no matter what we do or have done He continues to love us. The word “everlasting” in the Hebrew is owlam or olam and it means perpetual, without end. There is nothing that you can do or have done that will cause God’s love for you to cease. He loves because God is love. It is inherent in His character and nature to love. A cat meows because it is a cat and a dog barks because it is his character and nature to bark because he is a dog. Well, God’s character and nature is love so He loves.

Hosea 11:4 I drew them with gentle cords, With bands of love, And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck. I stooped and fed them.

God reveals Himself as a Father who is tender, close to His children, and sensitive to their needs. He teaches, encourages, helps and heals them. His desire is to remove the yokes of bondage from His children’s necks. He stoops down to feed His children and care for them. He is a God who conscientiously nurtures His children.

Sometimes people get involved in sin and then feel as if God is mad at them, but His anger is directed towards the sin, not the person who sins. Jesus paid the price for our sin on the cross; God’s anger has been satisfied through the blood of Jesus. Sin will break the fellowship that we have with the Father because sin hinders our ability to communicate with Him freely, but He is not mad at us when we sin. He just waits patiently for us to come back to Him.

1 John 2:1, 2 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

IF we sin….that means that we will have opportunity to sin. But if we do sin, we have an Advocate, or an Attorney that goes before us to the Father to plead our case. His name is Jesus! He gave Himself to pay the price for our sins and not just for you and me, but for the whole world. Anyone who comes to Jesus for forgiveness of sin will be forgiven.

Hebrews 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Jesus’ act of intercession on the cross was a one time sacrifice. He died once and for all to pay the price for mankind’s sin. But He ever lives to make intercession for us. He continues to work on our behalf, pleading our case to the Father so we can continue to be forgiven as we sin.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confess – Greek word homologeo – means to speak the same thing; to assent, accord, agree with; to confess, declare, admit; to confess by way of admitting oneself guilty of what one is accused of, the result of inward conviction; to declare openly by way of speaking out freely, such confession being the effect of deep conviction of facts.

To confess means that I come to God and agree with Him that what I’ve done is wrong; that I have sinned. When I do that the Word says that He is faith and just or fair in forgiving and cleansing me from my sin. I don’t have to carry it around and try to appease His anger through beating myself up over doing something wrong. I simply have to confess it by agreeing with God that I am wrong and what I have done is sin in His eyes. Then as I ask Him to forgive me He graciously, with a Father’s love, opens His arms wide to me in forgiveness and washes the sin from my soul and restores me to a right relationship with Him. He loves us! God is not mad at us! He is our Father!

Yesterday’s gone, my friend. You have today ahead of you. Will you stop the accusations of the enemy that says that God is mad at you for whatever you did in your past by running to the Father for forgiveness? That’s the way to silence the voice of the enemy when he comes with condemnation over sin. Just run to the Father and tell Him about it. Confess it to Him and allow Him to set you free from the condemning voice of the enemy!

Father, I thank You for the love that You have for each one of us. I thank You for giving Jesus to pay the price for my sin and for making the way for me to live above the condemnation that the devil speaks to my heart when I mess up and do something that I shouldn’t. Thank You for Your everlasting love for me! Thank You for always being there to receive me back when I sin. Father, I love You and praise You for all that You have done to secure my place in Your family. Thank You for loving me with an everlasting love. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
